Rear tine tillers have tilling blades (known as tines) located behind the wheels and engine. Such structure gives the tiller excellent stability and allows it to dig powerfully into the ground. Almost all rear tine garden tillers have gas engines, typically ranging from 99cc to over 300cc in displacement. They are heavy pieces of equipment that often weigh between 150 to 270 pounds, but fortunately, most have self-propelled wheels.
